Yeah, as opposed to our rowdy student section, who's more infatuated with scrolling through Insta or Tik-Tok than paying attention to what's going on in the game... Prior to getting my current season tickets, I had them with my friends in the last row of the South Stadium and so we'd always just sit in the Student Section. It was eye opening to so how disinterested most of them were about the game compared to when I was a student there after transferring from Kansas in the 90's.

I used to love getting student section seats as that was always the rowdiest spot in the stadium. Not sure how much is generational v. us being a 4-8/5-7 team for close to a decade.

Location
Greg McDermott's plantation
Pelini won at least one of them, when we beat the brakes off of Missouri when they were #7 and Helu ran for 2,376 yards on six carries.
Thx ....I remembered that Helu/Mizzou win but I couldn't remember if Mizzou was in the top 15 at the time.

Was that the only top 10 team (ranked at time of game) that Pelini beat in his 7 seasons?

The key to the next level crowd noise IMO is the feeling of knowing your team has a chance in big games (opponents ranked #1-15 specifically). Which we haven't had for a LOOOONNG time.

If you put yourself out there emotionally to think your team might beat the #7 team in the country, you gotta get rewarded at least every once in a while. Sans the MSU game in 2015 we've pretty much lost every single one of these games going all the way back to the Solich era. Pelini didn't win any of these games (#1-15 at home). Callahan didn't. Frost didn't. Riley had the one. Rhule hasn't yet.

Beating Colorado will be a good start to repairing this, even though they won't be ranked that high.
Good post that's more macro than what I'm about ready to post.

When you pour your heart, soul, lungs and energy into every defensive play as a 50+ y/o and they shit the bed consistently it's draining. I'm not even talking game to game, but series to series, quarter to quarter and play to play.

Like someone else said, one good thing will happen then 2 fumbles will happen.....one good thing, two more fumbles. Fuck, just score 2 or 3 times consistently and hold the opponent to one score and everybody would be happier and into the game. Not that difficult to connect the dots that good play should get people off their asses.

As long as we win this year. Been a LONG time comin'. Time to exorcise those demons.

The 92 game is one that will never be forgotten for me.... can remember most things that happened in that game, down to the particulars of many plays (and for good reasons), and what happened on the field during all of it. Was an epic beatdown we gave them. Just epic. That beatdown in that cold and shitty weather, is one of my most cherised memories. Some things are not replaceable in life - THAT game is one of those.

I was flying into ATL teaching a sales training class that started Sunday evening, and was "urging" the shuttle bus driver (a good ol' boy named Charlie from Fayetteville, GA) to get us to the Aberdeen Woods Conference Center in Peachtree City, GA STAT so I could catch the rest of the game.

We arrived, I snagged my room key and skedaddled to my room, flicked on my tv, found the game and the first thing I saw was ... my best friend, soaking wet, screaming into the TV cameras as they prepared to cut away for a commercial. One of the most surreal things I've ever experienced. I just sat down on the bed, dropped my bags and said out loud, "WTF did I just see?"

One of my ALL TIME favorite games too.
My story of that Hall🎃ween evening:

I was at the folks house about 30 mins N of Santa Barbara
One of my co-workers (not a fan obviously) was getting married in Santa Barbara that evening.
I watched the first 20 mins or so then had to leave.
NU 14 - CU 0, but still not "over" yet

The Wedding

I went to the my hotel room on the property where the reception was located
I called my dad from the room.
He asked if i wanted to know the score as he knew i was taping it at home in LA.
I said yes.

He simply said "52-7"

I had to think for a second...that's good, right?
Oh yeah we already had more than 7 when I left the house.

A HELL YEAH! was given and I said thanks for the info

Went to Reception, ate and drank like a MF'er
Went back to hotel and banged the GF (*ding)

The good ole days 🌽

I think it's a major factor. If you're 19 years-old, Nebraska hasn't had a winning season since you were in the 5th grade. You may not even remember when they were consistently winning 9 games per season. And you likely have zero recollection of players like Zac Taylor, Joe Ganz or even Suh.

And that's really just for the kids from Nebraska. For the out of state students, it has to be really difficult for them to manufacture any affinity for the team when it's such a dumpster fire.

However, I will defend them a little bit. Wisconsin has been winning for a few decades now. And they have the most overrated student section in College football. if they didn't do the stupid Jump around thing at the start of the 4th quarter, very few of their students would even show up.

I still think the blue hairs are the biggest problem for Nebraska. But i will add another component that I've observed at games over the last decade:

A parent or aunt or an uncle taking an elementary school aged kid to a game. This used to be something that happened when Nebraska played Pacific or Utah State in early September. But now that Nebraska has become a bottom feeder, tickets are inexpensive, or season ticket holders are willing to part with them easily.

This means random folks and children are attending league games vs opponents that matter. I cant believe the number of times I've talked to some random woman from some random town escorting her 8 year-old nephew to his first game, and then they spend the whole game walking back and forth to the concessions or the bathroom.

I Think it's easy to point fingers, but the biggest culprit has been the shitty football team. There is a cause and effect for everything.

THe effected outcome resulting in a listless stadium, below capacity, and scattered with disinterested students, casual fans, and old people is caused by a bad football team that has seen 10+ years of terrible leadership.
