It’s weird because Rivals has a quote from him and he was like, “I don’t know the guy at all” which is fair…..but I guess my point is his quote didn’t SOUND positive really, yet in the tweet he seems excited?

Maybe he did his research between the two?

Edit: he said, "Don’t know much about him. Just waiting to see what happens with the rest of the staff."

I think that’s the case. Might be realizing MJ probably not on staff.

Matt Rhule to Nebraska: Ex-Panthers coach shares words as Huskers' leader in interview with College GameDay

ByBRAD CRAWFORD 8 minutes ago

Matt Rhule is the new head coach at Nebraska after the Huskers announced their leader Saturday, ending a multi-month search to replace Scott Frost. Rhule appeared on a video call with ESPN's College GameDay from the beach in New Jersey's Cape May and shared his first words on taking over.

"I think it was really two things— the more you're away from it, the more you miss the players, the more you miss the locker room," Rhule said. "And then, this is Nebraska. This is a team I grew up not just watching, this is a team I grew up revering. Turd Albert, Admiral Ted Carter, they run an unbelievable search and I could see right away that the leadership is right."

The news comes one day after Nebraska and interim coach Mickey Joseph finished the season with an upset win at Cockeye, one of the lone bright spots in an otherwise forgettable campaign that began with Frost's firing in mid-September.

Here's what Rhule said in full during his first appearance as Nebraska's coach.

ON ACCEPTING NEBRASKA JOB

"There's tremendous alignment. It's got the greatest fanbase in football. Storied history, storied tradition. At the end of the day I felt like, you know hat, it fits me. I'm a guy who likes to go places and develop players. That’s my passion in life, to watch players go on (and dominate on) the field and no one in history has done that better than the Nebraska Cornhuskers. It seems like the right fit and I'm excited to get there."

ON GETTING HUSKERS TO NATIONAL CONTENTION

"I think it all comes back to that. There’s lots of good football players out there. I sat there last year and watched the draft and I watched six or seven Baylor kids get drafted. Guys that weren’t highly-recruited, guy that weren't five-star players and they played for us, played for (Baylor head coach) Dave Aranda who's a tremendous coach and built themselves into NFL players on the practice fields and in the meeting rooms.

"To me, the players that want to come to Nebraska, they have to want to be NFL players. They have to want great education. Anybody can help you get to the NFL, but we’re going to help guys get second contracts. That’s really been our specialty. We want to do the same thing at Nebraska.
"When you go back to the heyday and I had a chance to talk with (former Nebraska) coach (Tom) Osborne this morning, but who you go back and look at five national championships in the great, great days, it all goes back to alignment. When everybody wakes up every day with the same mission, you have a chance to do great things. We want to go there and rally the entire state around Nebraska football."

"We can’t look backwards. We can’t look to the side. We gave to look straight ahead. This isn’t just about me, it’s about everybody who joins me. One of the great things that drew me to it, is knowing Scott Frost has been there the last several years. He was a great coach. I know that program has a good culture and knows how to work."
Rhule previously led Baylor to an 11-win season in 2019, two years after the Bears lost 11 games.

He helped resurrect Temple football previously and is known as a program builder of sorts, which is exactly what Nebraska needs as a former powerhouse whose fallen on hard times.
"When you think of great, tradition-rich programs in college football Nebraska is right at the top of the list," Rhule said in a statement through the program. "The fan base is second to none and I consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to coach in Memorial Stadium on Tom Osborne Field."

It's time to invest in Nebraska football, according to most media members following the Huskers' rivalry weekend announcement. Rhule was at the top of the wishlist for the Huskers, who know this is not a win-now scenario for their new head coach. Rome wasn't built in a day, but the foundation is there at Nebraska to create a perennial winner with the right leader.
Rhule will look to complete what is already a decently strong 2023 recruiting class for Nebraska as the rebuild begins. The Huskers currently sit at No. 33 in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Team Rankings with 15 commits, three of whom are four-star prospects.

The Panthers fired Rhule in October after he finished his stint in Carolina at 11-27 over three seasons. At Baylor, Rhule took over a program that was reeling from the aftereffects of Art Briles' tenure and turned the Bears into a New Year's Six bowl team by the end of his third campaign. Along the same lines, Rhule guided Temple to consecutive 10-win seasons to finish what had been a major rebuilding project in Philadelphia with the Owls.

“It is a privilege to welcome coach Matt Rhule, his wife Julie, and their family to Nebraska,” Alberts said. “Coach Rhule has created a winning culture throughout his coaching career, and he will provide great leadership for the young men in our football program. Matt is detail-oriented, his teams are disciplined and play a physical brand of football. Matt also has the personality and relationship-building skills to build a great staff and excel in recruiting.”

I think Mick is a great coach, but I don’t know if keeping him on after being interim for most of a season is the right choice.

It COULD be, but I could also see it causing problems if we get off to a slow start.

The announcement of the staff will be the next big domino to fall, and I honestly have NO feel for how it will go.

Love the Rhule hire, though. I think it’s the best we could have REALISTICALLY hoped for…..and I hope I’m right.
