Think it would be awesome if this was a by invitation only board, and new members had to be approved by A selected group of existing sponsoring members. A bit elitist I know but it certainly would keep the board from going to shit.
Also, creating exclusivity is a great marketing ploy. It adds cachet and creates a sense of urgency.

As an advertising/marketing guy, I know it would create buzz, and a sense of urgency. It would give board participants an incentive to become a sponsoring member, as that’s the only way they could vote on new members.
You could also work something, were current sponsoring members could “vouch” for other members and they could join on a probationary basis.
There could be different levels of approval… So many votes (say 90%) gets you automatic approval, a certain percentage (say 60% to 89%) to get you probationary approval, and under certain level (say 59% or below) you’re rejected. Makes members feel like they have a bit of ownership in the product also.

100% agree. It’s not elitist, its simply a club. Not everyone gets to be in club, right? Elitist is a worn-out word used by a woke generation and has been misappropriated to mean “They won’t let me play with them, or be in their club, so they are racist and ”elitist”.
