Kavosiey Smoke calls out Shedeur Sanders for saying Colorado 'didn't have enough dogs' in 2023

Former Colorado running back Kavosiey Smoke hasn’t been shy about voicing his opinions on his lone season in Boulder, and has taken exception to some words of his former QB1, Shedeur Sanders.

During an appearance on Cam Netwton’s 4th & 1 podcast, Sanders took a dig at the members of the Buffaloes’ roster by saying that there weren’t enough ‘dogs’ on the roster. Smoke responded on social media:

“Cmon fam don’t do your teammates like that gang…..we know why we loss and the world know why we lost!!” Smoke wrote.

This isn’t the first time the former Kentucky tailback has been public about the locker room environment at Colorado. Smoke took to social media in November to air some grievances about the Buffs’ poor performances over the back half of the season, saying that they could have gone undefeated if it weren’t for unselfish players.

Smoke never said he was talking about Sanders specifically when it came to that statement but seemed to be unhappy with what Sanders had to say.

“By having the right players,” Sanders said when asked how to improve in 2024. “We only lost a lot of games last year because we have enough dogs on the team. You understand I’m not even a player to be talking crazy or anything like that. Now, when you got some guys on the team that can’t stick up for themselves or you got guys on a team where that’s not in them, you’ve got to become that because they’re going to follow the leader. Not really caring, whatever it is, they’re gonna go do it.”

Whether Sanders or Smoke is justified in their respective opinion is up for debate, but what can’t be argued is the fact that Colorado lost eight of its last nine games and finished dead last in the Pac-12 standings.

At some point after their 3-0 start to the season which made them the center of college football, something fell apart for Colorado. They were never able to reach the heights that sent them into the AP Top 25 poll and saw them host ESPN College GameDay against rival Colorado State.

Smoke won’t be back at Colorado in 2024, as he has exhausted his college eligibility after spending five seasons in Lexington and one in Boulder. Sanders, however, will be returning to play for his father, Deion Sanders, for another season.

Colorado kicks off its 2024 college football season on Aug. 31 against North Dakota State.

Some of that was English.

It may not surprise you that this was an On.3 article, but with all the errors and typos, it may surprise you that it wasn't written by Sean Callahan.

For example: “By having the right players,” Sanders said when asked how to improve in 2024. “We only lost a lot of games last year because we have enough dogs on the team.

I'm pretty sure the word "don't" was omitted from that last sentence. It is kind of the point of the whole article and is mentioned in the headline even. My god, proof reading and editing is a lost art.
